💬 Topic of the week: “I never have enough money!”

👦
Malek, 14I get ten dinars a week, as much as my best friend Rami. But Rami always has money left on Friday and I don’t! I spend it on snacks, phone credit and new pens. I love buying stationery: coloured pens, cool notebooks… My desk is full, but I keep buying. My sister says it’s like an addiction.
👧
Clara, 15I was as bad as you last year, Malek! Now I write a budget. Half of my allowance goes into my savings and I only purchase extras once a month. Saving isn’t as boring as people think: in May, I bought a guitar with my own money!
👩
Mrs Jlassi, motherMy son asked me for more money every week. So we made a deal: he helps me in the shop on Saturdays and he gets a little extra. Now he knows that money is hard-earned. He is as careful as his father with it, and there’s no more overspending!

Rami’s tip: “Before you buy something, wait two days. If you still want it, it’s a need. If you don’t, it was just an extra!”

A model text to compare with (after writing mine)

My parents give me twelve dinars a week, as much as my brother Hamdi. I spend about half of it on my bus ticket and snacks. I don’t buy as many extras as my friends, because I am saving up for a football. I put four dinars in my piggy bank every Sunday. Saving is not as difficult as I thought, and it feels great when you buy something with your own money. My cousin Amira is as generous as me, but she spends everything on Monday! My advice: make a budget and remember that your parents’ money is hard-earned.

One good example among many: compare, don’t copy.
